Orewa
12th Sep 2010
After
3 years of cold and rain, Orewa finally put on a nice day for the first
round of the TRANZ Auckland club level racing. The water was flat and
not much more than a breeze blew accross the beach made for some very
high speed racing.
Starts
were vital and it quickly became obvious that the top crews fom last
season had maintained their edge. Smuggler slipped straight back into
their number 1 position winning the day overall without fault.
Blackpepper put up a serious challenge winning all of their heats only
to stumble on the start line in the final and rob themselves of
possible victory. Some other familiar faces made the final such as
Henderson Construction,PBS and TBA all in new rigs. One thing almost
all cews had in common was most agreed the off season had softened them
up a bit with a lot of very sore bodies despite the flat
conditions. Heaps of new faces and some old crews returning made
this a promising start to what should be a very interesting season.
Overall
this was a fun day and a great way to kick things off. In
DC news the TBA crew raced their new DC10-R with good results. They
finished 6th overall despite having only had 1hour of training time
between picking the new Hull up and racing it. Feedback to DC Racing is
they were very excited about the handling and speed of the first DC10-R
sold in the world and look forward to getting it out in the surf! |
