DIY Race Maintenance
Racing
will place a lot of pressure on your Thundercat, however that does not
mean it has to be unreliable. The
key to keeping your DC Thundercat performing to its maximum potential
is as simple as a few basic maintenance routines.Below is a
guide to some DIY maintenance,it is not exhaustive and is not designed
to replace scheduled servicing by a qualiifed mechanic such as DC
Racing.

pic of fuel filter

| After every use:
- Let air out of top chambers and highjackers, deflate the front chambers first
- Wash boat and outside of motor with fresh water
- Remove and clean fuel filter with fresh water, air dry completely before replacing
1b - Drain carbs by loosing the carbs screws and pumping a small amount of fuel through
- Run engine on ear muffs for 5minutes ensuring the gearbox is in the nuetral position
- Remove cowling and spray whole engine with WD40
- Spray propeller shaft with WD40
|

 | Every 10hours 2a - Check condition of spark plugs. If spark plugs are dirty as pictured either clean or replace with new plugs
- Remove and clean fuel filter using fresh water, air dry completely before replacing
2c - Remove and clean alliminium tiller arm. The adjoining surfaces may require a light sanding if damaged.
2d -
Remove and check throttle/ gear cable bracket. The bracket will likely
need cleaning with a steel brush, clean with fresh water before
replacing
2e - Remove and clean anode, this will require scrubbing with fresh water and detergent
- Check throttle range, at wide open throttle you should have approx 2mm of movement of stopper.

| Reinstatment - After enigine has been submerged
Once
an engine has been fully submerged in salt water it is vital you work
quickly to reistate the engine before permanent damage can occur. It is
a good idea to keep a basic tool kit in the boat for this reason. - Remove the key from the kill switch - Remove the cowling
-
Wash salt water off exposed parts of engine with fresh water
3a - Disconnect the spark plug leads and remove the spark plugs, squirt 2 stroke fuel into holes
- Remove the air filter
3b - Squirt 2 stroke fuel into carbs
- Remove the carburettor drain screws
- Remove the fuel filter
3e - Disconnect hose marked with tape leading into the crankshaft bearing under fllywheel and squirt approx 30ml of 2stroke oil into hose, then refit hose
- Slowly pull engine over approx 15times, water should squirt out the spark plug holes
- Continue pulling engine over getting faster until water stops squirting out
- Spray contact cleaner orbrake kleen into spark plug holes
-
Wash spark plugs with contact cleaner/ brake kleen, dry and refit in
engine.Wash inside the spark plug leads with contact cleaner/ brake
kleen before refitting
- Clean fuel filter with 2stroke fuel and replace
3f -
Spray contact cleaner/ brake kleen into carb screw holes then pump 2 stroke fuel through the
fuel systemby squeezing the primer bulb. Quick flushing fuel through
until only cleanfuel without water or salty contaminants comes
out the carb screw holes. Replace screws
- Wash air filter with contact cleaner/ brake kleen and dry, then refit
- Spray entire engine with contact cleaner/ brake kleen. Once dry coat full engine with WD40
- Start engine and idle, do not rev for 3minutes. Then run under load for minimum 5minutes
- After use run on house for a further 15min
3e - Disconnect hose marked with tape leading into the crankshaft bearing under fllywheel again and squirt approx 30ml of 2stroke oil into hose, then refit hose
- Drop into qualified repairer such as DC Racing for a reinstatement service
